Epson Printer: The administrator password you entered was not recognized
I recently purchased a new Epson EcoTank ET-2860. When setting the printer up for Wireless use via the mobile app, the printer asks for an administrator password.
The guidance, including a little slip of paper provided with the printer, states you should use the number that’s printed on a “Password” sticker, found when opening the front printer flap.
For me, this never worked, and instead returned an error of “The administrator password you entered was not recognized”.
Instead, this worked for me:
- Hold down the Network information button for ~7 seconds.
- The printer will then print out some network information.
- On the first page, look for the “WPS-PIN Code” or “Wi-Fi Direct > Password” properties.
- For me, this was an 8-digit number.
- Use the value of that as the “Administrator password” instead.
I could then continue with set-up and use. I’m not sure if it’s a mis-print of the label, or mis-configuration of the printer itself, or something else, but I thought I’d document this to help others since I could not find any guidance when searching myself.
